Other Places, Other Times….
The AXES saxophone quartet will be on tour in Victoria this spring presenting an enticing program of works built around Maurice Ravel’s Tombeau de Couperin. This program explores how music has so often been composed as a direct reflection of the state of the world the composers found themselves in. From tragedy to reflection, music was often centered around a strong need to comment on society.
Repertoire includes:
– October by Eric Whitacre
– Night Music by Emma O’Halloran
– Quatuor by Jerome Savari
– Colonial Song by Percy Grainger
– Wilga’s Last Dance by Nardi Simpson
– Le Tombeau de Couperin by Maurice Ravel
